Communicating Your Feeding Policy: Going Beyond "Read & Sign"

$29.00

Overview:
The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Step 1 requires the facility to “Have a written infant feeding policy that is routinely communicated to staff and parents.” It’s common for hospital personnel to focus on the first part of that—making sure they have a written policy, and writing one if they don’t. However, the hospital often has little or no focus on the second part—that the policy must be “routinely communicated.” Many rely on the “read and sign.” But that does not work well at all. That begs the question: What does work? Ideally, you and your team should brainstorm ideas for how to communicate the new policy; you know your staff, and your facility better than an outsider. But if you need a starting point, consider these ten suggestions. The goal of this program is to employ one or more of 10 different strategies—and pick specific techniques for your hospital/facility—to effectively communicate your infant feeding policy.
