Writing Effective Feeding Policies: A Hands-On Workshop

$39.00

Overview:
The first of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding requires the maternity care facility to have a written breastfeeding policy. Without more direction, such policies tend to be written more as philosophy statements or run-on strings of instructions than actual “policy.” This is not surprising; a lack of formal pre-service education and little help in the healthcare literature leaves the person assigned to the task of policy development feeling ill-equipped to do so. As a result, the policy is often incomplete, unclear, or so excessive that it is rejected by the Baby-Friendly assessors and scorned by the staff.     This program addresses what a policy is (and isn’t), identifying key stake holders, deciding what content to draft, achieving clarity, recognizing pitfalls to avoid, finding ways to implement policy, and evaluating its success. The goal of this program is to help the learner engage in a results-oriented process, develop content, and measure outcomes of an effective hospital breastfeeding policy.
